Languages that Sounds like Birds:
Sense Technique

Compile submissions. Read through all of the submissions with the goal of isolating different sense experiences. For example, read all of the submissions looking for items that have been sensed through sight. Copy and paste these items into a separate document. Create a poem using the “sight” submissions. Repeat with taste, smell, touch, and hear.

In this room

Clementine Bellamy Muteteri

My special place is in this room, full of joy and beauty.
Beauty reflected through our differences.
At times, confusion on our faces,
trying to process what we face.
Exhaustion due to fear, of an accent misheard.
The smell of coffee and tea flavors every morning, makes one travel the world.
I miss home, but I found a home in this room.
I hear different languages!
Languages that sounds like birds singing through my ears,
Trying to interpret what I hear,
At times it wasn’t clear.
This tiny room was welcoming and a classroom for everyone!
We didn’t just learn English!
We learned a lot about life.
By the end of the semester, our wings were spread wide.
“Home is where your heart is.” They said.
I am forever thankful for glimpse of heaven, I gained in this room.
I miss home, I miss that room.
