Seasons of the ESL Class

Anonymous

When the spring came with bright sunshine,
we sometimes went outside reading books and sharing our thoughts in English.
When the clear blue sky opened its blanket in the summer,
we learned how to write an essay in English.
When the leaves turn into red and yellow feathers in fall,
We watched the movies and learned the American culture from them.
When the winter came with the white snow like cotton,
we went on a trip to Chicago to experience the new city of America.
Oh, how can I forget the moments that we used to learn not only how to read, write and share in English but also experience American culture.
Oh, the seasons of the ESL class made my precious memories of America.

During Indiana

Jack Peterson

During Indiana
I wintered in a cave
Where I sewed together
yellow feathers
and tanned red leaves
a blanket to stretch
and a book to turn
in blue sky seasons

Seasons of the Class

Anonymous & Jack Peterson

Learning American culture
in the winter, going to Chicago
white Indiana snow
turning grey around Gary
and on into the city.

Experiencing American culture
in the spring, watching movies
bright Indiana sunshine
pressing and fixing
precious memories of America.

Learning to write an essay in English
in the summer, going outside
the clear blue sky
shares our thoughts
even as the breeze takes them away

Writing and sharing in English
in the fall, reading books
the leaves turn and drop
to mark our place
as we become lost in another story.
