You Appeared to Me a Warm Poem: Ontographic Technique

Compile submissions of one or two word lists. Experiment with ways to connect the words. For example, you could connect the words with a function word like without. You could freely create a poem that thematically connects the words from the list with one list word on each line. You could take a theme related to the research, for example classroom, and use the list items as a way to remake a classroom scene.

Time passes so quickly,
many things have passed away in my memory.
But now i can imagine the golden time
when i was one of your student at Dalat University.
Some memories will exist in my mind forever indeed.
We really had a good time working together
and your figure has much influence in my life.
I'm not good in literature so I can't compose a poem,
but you appeared to me a warm poem and most of all a teacher and a friend.
I'll keep in my mind the wonderful time under your guidance and teaching.

Ontographic Scene

Selina M. and Jack Peterson

The homework is written on the whiteboard.

The teacher places the cap on the marker.

Students take this moment to sip from waterbottles

and organize tattered notebooks.

This summer it’s mostly Asians,
holding various English accents.
The one with chewing gum in the mouth stands first,

double checking the clock on the wall.

Before he can leave the next class enters through the door with a small window,

chatting and carrying Starbucks coffeecups.

Remembrance Ontograph

Anonymous & Jack Peterson

Warm when we understood each other.
Kindness when we refused to compete.
Joy when the class ended well.
Fun when we made our own.
Friendly nearly all of the time.
Clumsy when we had to move.
Cozy when we were close to home.
Excited when we knew enough.
Tired when we had weeks to go.
Small when we couldn’t see.
Conversation when we listened well.

Ontographic Poeming

capehope & Jack Peterson

I don’t consider it a 새로움 novelty
to be surrounded by 젊음 youth,
as I age and cling to 열정 passion,
like some do to 신뢰 faith.
I fight the ease of 마음이 따뜻한 warmheartedness.
Yet, somewhere the sky gives in to 파란 색 blue color ,
like a thunderstorm’s inevitable 상 award ,
like a hurricane’s settling for a 상품 prize,
like a shelf holding another decade’s 사전 dictionary.
